The Thirty Years' War was coming to a close when the Swedish army drew to the Moravian metropolis. Brno was besieged between May 3 and August 23, 1645. The Brno garrison of 1,500 men defended the city against some 28,000 soldiers of the Swedish General Lennart Torstenson.
